October 2004: The pages herein concern the NOSS PI and Informational Meeting held at
the Colorado School of Mines (Golden, CO).
One of the focus areas in the NeTS program concerns Networking of Sensor Systems (NOSS). This focus area examines networking aspects of small sensor systems that are used as building blocks in large-scale, sensing applications. In other words, the NOSS focus area is concerned with the design and development of protocols and with building systems that facilitate constructing networks of sensor systems. The emphasis of this focus area is on networking, and hence the focus area will fund both systems and foundations research that is closely tied to building networks of sensor systems. The focus area will achieve it's goals by:Creating strong foundation and system knowledge for the design and development of networks of sensor systems that are easy to manage, evolve, and secure, that can also provide quality of service guarantees Developing a range of efficient and usable network sensor system platforms and tools Creating network testbeds for sensor systems with diverse applications and platforms in order to gain significant experimental knowledge and experienceThe Colorado School of Mines (home of the Toilers), will host two meetings related to the NOSS focus area. The first meeting is for the principal investigators of projects funded by NOSS in 2004; this meeting is by invitation only. The second meeting is an informational meeting for potential proposers. During the informational meeting, recent NOSS awardees will share their successful projects, and attendees will interact with these investigators formally and socially. In addition, attendees will learn about the direction of the NOSS focus area and the open research challenges that exist. The format of the meeting is organized around communicating pioneering research, growing the community in this focus area, and fostering potential collaborations. The main goals of the informational meeting are to continue the building of the NOSS focus area community, encourage early collaboration, and strengthen the pool of submissions. |
